Marlin 1897
What would a marlin 1897 22 cal. lever action rifle worth that is missing parts where the firing pin and housing should be?And can you find parts for such a gun?

I have a Marlin 1897 lever action .22 that is jammed with the lever open, and the bolt in the rearward position. (It's not mine)
I do have instructions for the Model 39, but I don't know if they are the same. There may be a stuck cartridge somewhere inside. The owner was firing CCI mini-mags in it. Brophy'y book states that early breechbolts could crack when using Hi-speed ammo, and bolts were beefed up to prevent it. This gun was made in 1900. Any expert out there who knows how to get it apart with the hammer back, the bolt open, and the lever all the way forward (open)position??

I just bought one a model 97 with ok bore, 10% bluing, nearly zero case hardning, and intend to refinish it.
With all that said, I am wondering what you decided to do? My question is, if I refinish it, will I improve or decrease the value? I would only bother with high quality re-do. Any thoughts, parts suppliers, etc, that you could share would share would be appreciated.

There are a couple on GB right now, they are nice rifles and I am biased as I prefer Marlin Leverguns over Winchester; normally any time that you alter a firearm it will decrease the value which also can depend on the weapon itself and potential buyers as well since some are "purists" and want the blood and guts and everything else left right where it is and others prefer that they are reworked and refinished. 0
