gun registration
I lost several registered guns awhile back. Unfortunately the records of serial numbers was also taken. An inside job I suspect. The pistols were registered to me at purchase. What entity keeps the records? Can I get the serial numbers from there? I'd sure like to have that number if my gun pops up at a pawn shop.Is there a stolen gun registery out there assuming I can get the serial numbers? Tanks for any help.

If I see a gun at a flea market or anywhere that I am interest in buying what is the quickest and easiest way to check and see who's name this is registered in and if it is reported stolen. I just feel sometimes unsure when I see a gun I would like to buy and would hate to purchase a stolen gun. The ATF just recently stormed the home of a neighbor and tore his house upside down(even emptied his flower pots out) They did find a gun that had been stolen over thirty years go and this person is only 35 years old. I know he didn't do this. 0 -
I don't know what state you are in, but on the federal level it's not a law that typical firearms be registered. The yellow form you fill out at the time of purchase, and the call for the NICS check is NOT registration. If you live in one of the states that does require registration, the State should have the serial number of the gun, otherwise I wouldn't consider it registration.The act of filling out the yellow form and the background check is erroneously believed to be registration by some. In reality, the Feds do not take the serial number of the gun, make or model and such at the time it is bought from the dealer.The dealer you bought the guns from should have, on file, the original yellow form. They are required to keep those until they go out of business, and then they are turned over to the ATF. So the dealer you bought the gun from should have a record of the sale, with the serial number, make, and such. The problem, of course, is the time and effort he will need to dig it out. Some dealers, no doubt, have hundreds of them. He might not want to spend the time doing it. You should probably consider paying him something to find the info you need. thanks boeboe, I live in Indiana. The dealer is out of business and deceased. Who at state level might know? The local police were unable or unwilling to help, I'm stuck.Does the ATF have online site??? 0 -

Digster, When a FFL dealer goes out of business he is required to send all his records to the ATF. You might check with the family of the deceased and see if the records were forwarded to the ATF. 0 -
