Springfield Krag Accuracy
I just picked up a "chopped" 1898 Krag last week. I bought some Remington ammo (180grn) and was a little nervous about shooting it. The first couple of shots were all over the paper. I think I was nervous. So to my surprise the next three shots were about three inches low of the 10 ring, but the grouping was less then an inch at 75 yrds! For me thats extremely good, especialy from a gun that is over 100 years old! Are these old war horses known for that kind of accuracy? Also, its got to bre one of the smoothest bolt action rifles I have ever shot.

My krag is just as accurate, though mine isn't chopped. Yes, they are known for being very accurate and very smooth. So long as you stick to factory pressure ammo or comprable handloads, you'll be ok, but NEVER hotrod this cartridge handloading as the single locking lug just can't take it.

They are good accurate guns. As jonk said, don't shoot high pressure ammo in them. My only complaint of the Krag was there was too much recoil for the amount of velocity produced. I like the 30.06 better.
