22-magnum vs what?

I have a Marlin 22 magnum auto test fired only and a 22 Magnum AMT, nib. and a case or so of ammo and was just wondering if it was worth shooting out to 200 yards for varmints or would it be better to sell it and go to something like a 223. I have a Savage Anschutz 54 sporter with stingers that will work to a 100 yards easy. I had just never gotten into 22 mag that much and was wondering which way to go.

  I feel 200 yards is a stretch for varmint's with the 22mag. I would move up to the 223. So many deals on 223 ammo too. Then your good out past 200 yards just in case you need a little more distance. RG

  22 Mag at 200 yards = favor of varmit, not shooter.This from personal experience. shooting pineys at 175 yards. Knocked one out of the tree and saw him climb right back up. For fun got out my 7.62x39 and killed the sucker. when I picked him up, although the back half of his body was gone, he had a 22mag slug in his head that never penetrated more than his skin.

  Go with a .223 or a 22-250. Either one will do a better job for you.

  I've owned 22 Mags for many years and like them a lot but 200 yards is a little long for them to be affective. If I'm going to reach out that far I use my 220 Swift....

  .223 will get you there and then some
