I can help you with Colts or Iver Johnson's. Send me the serial number....using "X's" for the last two digits if you wish. Also need the model of the gun. Let me know!

S&W has done it for me on a couple of occasions...even told me when each revolver was first sold. Browning is not too difficult either. Are you looking at a particular gun? timbroman@aol.com

Thanks for the replies....I was not looking for any particular gun, just wondering if there was a way to look them up......Also don't laugh cause I'm new at this but why put XX's at the end of a serial number?

Some folks do not like to put out complete serial numbers. It could be a problem if at some point in it's history the firearm was stolen and BATF or other law enforcement get the numbers. In most cases it makes no difference whatever. Many serial numbers can be looked up and the sources of information vary. The Blue book of gun values has some and books on specific manufacturers have some. In some cases it is very difficult, such as guns in production from a small manufacturer not in business for long. There is no one source for all serialization that I have ever seen. If you have particular models from particular makers, someone here can point you to the most reliable source.
