jc higgins 30/06 model 51L value?

Guy wants to sell me his fathers old deer rifle jc higgins 51L can anyone tell me who made this model I think that is a sears brand name am I correct? Also what is it worth. at this point I havent seen the gun to tell its condition.Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you,in advance Hank
