I would think it was the gun, I have had positive results with Winchester superX in my 10/22.

Did you clean the gun completely before you took it to the range? It has been my experience that most guns have a lot of crud in them from the factory. Mostly from the machining and stuff that is done. You may have been able to take it apart and clean it good and it would have been fine. Then again, there may have truly been something wrong with it.

Jon,I doubt you will have a problem with the 2nd rifle. The 10/22 is a very simplistic firing mechanism. The previous comments about "factory crud" are a great start. My guess is that is the case. If you heard a click when you pulled the trigger the only moving parts left are the firing pin, a long pin in a metal block, and a spring. If all was clean and lubricated, my guess would be a bent firing pin. Good luck with the new one. They are great little guns.
