    I have a Winchester 1300 that I am very pleased with, but I haven't had a Remington 870.

Kind of depends...Is the 870 new or is it 10 or 15 years old? I have 2 870's, a 16ga and a 12ga. My brother has a 1300 feather weight 12ga. My 870's are from early 80's, and they are smoother than the 1300. But the 1300 is still a good shooting gun. I do prefer the Win model 12 (pre 64) myself, but for the 870 vs 1300, go with what fits and feels the best for you. Happy shopping and hunting

I have a 1300 "Black Shadow" turkey gun (12 guage), and an extra rifled barrel for it. It works fine, not as smooth as the 870 as mentioned above. The black shadow is all synthetic and weighs nothing. Darned near goes into orbit when fired. If you go with the 1300 buy one with wood stocks for a little extra weight unless you love recoil.I am saving my nickles for a Browning Citori lightweight 20 guage.

i was looking at 20gu.'s this fall, and looked at a few 1300, but i chose a 870 wingmaster, i seemed to fit me better, and is comes up oh so nice!!!!! just my 2cents.

I have 2 870's one new and one is 10 years old I have no complaints about either of them. Although the new ones features a locking safety that I don't really need. One is for birds and the other is for deer.

Remington vs. Winchester is like John Deere vs. Massey Ferguson. No comparison!! Shoot the Win. once and its worth nothing, shoot the Remington 10,000 times and its still worth at least half what you gave for it!!! My blood runs green for Remington and John Deere if you couldn't tell!!

I say skip both and buy a mossberg 835, It will shoot anything you put in it and there about the same price if not alittle less. Barrels are easy to come buy and their ported as well!!Stir, Stir, Stir

Buy the 870 in a 3 1/2". I have one in the Express model with composit stock. It will handle all 3 length of 12ga shells and is comparable in price to the 835.

They are both good designs, both reliable, both have a whole variety of models to choose from, and if you find either you like, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.
