When did Weaver make the transition of a steel tube to an aluminum tube for their scopes? There seem to be a lot of steel tubes still around.

I do not own one but they had very good reviews in the various hunting and shooting magazines when the Grand Slam Series was launched. Has a reputation of Vari X 3 glass for a Vari X 2 price. Weaver's parent company,Blount, was recently sold to Alliant. I do not know what this means for Weaver, but Alliant has shut down Redfield who they also acquired in the deal with Blount.[This message has been edited by mbrook (edited 02-17-2002).] 0 -
Redfield now owned by Simmons Outdoor based in Thomasville Ga. 0 -
I just purchased a Weaver Grand Slam from Natchez shooters supply in a 6X20,seems like a very nice scope. Do not know how much better it is over the Weaver Variables, for the extra $100. but I am quite pleased with it. One guys opinion. 0
