Lee, the NRA did a study many years ago and concluded that the 50/50 Alox/beeswax mix (available under many different brand names) was best of what was then available. This is a softish lube in that it can be melted without much effort and poured around BP projectiles in a pan to lube them and does not need heating to be applied in the standard lubrisizer tool. The one draw back is its tacky composition which will pick up crud if dropped or left in an environment where such is possible. Possibly exposure to high heat could cause it to liquify and affect performance, although I've never had that problem myself and have used it 30+ years w/ no problems whatsoever in both handgun & rifle applications. The only advantage the hard lubes have - IMHO - is the lack of tackiness and resistance to heat. I have some equipment that requires their use, but I've not noted any difference in performance. Can't speak to the powdered lube coatings.

Lee liquid alox is easiest to use; just dribble some on the bullets in a container, swish around, and you are done. I have also found it works quite well as any leading is minimal and easily enough removed.

I too am a firm believer in Lee's liquid alox, wonderful stuff. Use it on everything, even moly coated lead rounds take to it well, talk about a slick bullet, no leading, with wheel weight cast bullets. I like the combination.
