I use a combo of both; but mainly soft. Soft covers are much easier to maneuver and you can fit many more into a given space.

I first thought this was a VIAGRA question and pasted on it.But I now join Jonk, I also use both. Big guns with the scopes go in the hard case and others in the softies.

I'd say go with a fitted hard case every time. For a nice expensive gun, you need a nice expensive case to protect its value, and your investment in it. Now for the decrapitated hunting shotgun that you take to the salt marsh every year, just get a soft case so you won't be as descrete while walking to your car with it.

I prefer the hard cases also I have both and tend to grab the one kolpin almost every time. It seems ot open and close easier with the slide latches than my other ones. Just found one on sale friday for 15.00 new on sale! Snatched it up quick!
The older I get, The better I was!!!

I dont know about others, but the cheap soft cases are just that, and I wont have one. I believe the only ones worth haveing are made by ICC or Bear Tracker. I cant afford one of those, much like the safe. I havent had a problem, cause unlike those of you with all the MONEY I dont fly with mine. Seriously, though, how is it you NEED a hard case unless you are flying. For years I've used soft cases, and never have I had a gun damaged by handling, or a scope knocked around. I do have some nice soft cases, though, one in particular that is so thick it protects probably as good as some of the cheap hard cases. I really think that if you have the respect for your property that you should, it will not get damaged by handling, I wouldnt dream of throwing my guns around, and to me there is no such thing as a throw around gun, IT JUST AINT SO!!

In fact, most of my guns are wrapped in gun socks I sewed myself from scrap, which I then sprayed down on the inside with silicone oil. I don't cart them off to the range in these, but it keeps them from scratching each other in the pile.

I use both, but mainly soft cases. The soft ones I have have the heavy balistic nylon & egg-crate type foam lining ... they are easier to handle and more efficent when it comes to space ... like robsguns, I don't toss them around either.About the only time I use a hard case is when I shoot in a match, a double gun case has enough room for gun, ammo, mags, spotting scope and stand, so all I have to carry is that and a folding seat which has a zippered pocket for shooting glasses, glove, ammo pouches (that fit on my belt for slow fire) and a loop to hold my shooting mat ... shooting jacket shrunk so I don't use it anymore ... funny how those things shrink from just hanging in the closet
