What round is it ?
I would like to know what caliber this round is,if any one can help.It was a blank round fired by the honor guardwhen we had to send Pop to his buddies from WWII last June.It appears to be a 30 cal.looking at the size. The only markings on it,{around the primer} are L C 6 9 It also has a deep grove about 3/16" down from the neck.It was a blank of course,I'm guessing that was because of it being a blank.Just curiou,I,m not familiar with old brass.

LC is for Lake City, the ammunition factory where the case was made, and 69 is the year of manufacture. Unfortunately it is difficult to identify the case positively without knowing it's dimensions, as this time period was the height of the Viet Nam War and it could be .30-06, 7.62mm NAT0, or even .30 US Carbine. If you come back with some precise measurements we may be able to help you further. It was doubtless one of these three. 0 -
It was a .30-06, arsenal & date as the Mtn Hunter ID'd. The 7.62x51 blank has an extension protruding above the 'neck' which is substantially under bore diameter & the .30 Carb blank has a star closure at the mouth. Chances are the honor guard from the local VFW or American Legion were using M1903 or 03A3 rifles, which are only chambered in '06. 0 -
Sounds like a grenade lauching round to me.
