Good Pre-ban Mags for .223
Now that I have a .223, I've been looking for pre-ban mags. Which ones should be avoided and which ones should be jumped on? What should I expect to pay for a 20-30 round mag that won't jam me up?christian

Everybody says USGI mags. I have quite a few OKay brand mags and have never had a problem with them. I don't know if those are considered USGI though. Also, some people will say to get mags with green followers. I don't have a single mag with a green follower and don't any problems. I think you should be able to find mags anywhere from $15 to $30 depending on how hard you look. Check out the auctions. I picked up 19 mags in one auction so it equated to about $17 per mag. I thought that was pretty decent.BTW, did you go with the OA or the bushmaster? 0 -
Which gun did you purchase that shoots .223? I assume you are talking about a Ar-15, but could be talking about a mini-14. If you purchased a mini-14, the best mags are the Factory ones, but they commmand a premium.I have seen Ruger 30 rounder's go for over a hundred dollars each, but the most I have ever paid for one is about 85. PMI mags work real well for the mini-14, and there are others. Mags for the mini do not seem to be as finicky as the ones for the ar-15. Drums for .223 are expensive. The only one I know of for the mini-14 is made of plastic and can be distroyed if used in a full auto gun. Have a friend who sent his back to the factory 4 times from being destoyed by his full auto. I won't put my plastic drum in my full auto. The Ar-15 has the option of a (slightly expensive) steel drum, which holds over a hundred rounds.Plus the betamag, which in itself is not cheap. USGI, they are the best. Any brand or add that advertises mil spec. Ask around on the forum, there are people here who may have somr for sale. I will leave it up to them to reply. 0 -
sanchez,parsons,orlite(they are poly or something)like that. If you can find them with the green followers they will not misfeed.

I ended up ordering a Bushmaster M4 A3 Carbine. I can't wait to see it.I appreciate all info. I'll start looking for mags soon.christian 0 -
