M-N ammo pouch

I'm just curious about these ammo pouches. Stripper clips with five rounds doesn't fit into the pouch. This leads me to suspect that the pouches were used to contain loose rounds? The size of the pouches are large enough to be much good for anything. Does anyone know how they were actually used?

  I've got two different models that came with rifles; both will hold 3 loaded stripper clips in each pouch for a total of 30 in each double pouch. Perhaps yours is intended for some other use or rifle. These are currently available from TAPCO, among others.
