remington model 12 in remington .22 special

A remington model 12 in rem. .22 special has come in to my possession it has a haxagonal barrelwith cloudy bluing but mostly in tact the receiver is mostly rusted (brown patina) but smooth except the very botom in front of the trigger guard the wood is dark but smooth no dings or scratches, the bore is to my surprise bright after cleaning. I am looking for info. on the cartridge and on the rifle. Pedersons patents from 1909 to 1914. steel curved but plate. thanks keith

  Remington 22 special is just remington's name for the Winchester Rim Fire (WRF) cartridge. Octagonal barrels and the metal buttplates were very common on quality 22's of that era. CCI is now selling WRF ammo that will work in your gun, also you can still find some Winchester shells that were made in 1986 and 1994 at gunshows for $5.00-$7.00 a box. 22 Rem.Spec. or WRF are fun to shoot. Similiar to a 22 magnum.Any 22 Rem. spec. shells that you might find are getting collectable so they will be to expensive to shoot.
