I've been considering whether or not to pick up a USAS and was wondering if anyone out there has any experience/advice for me. Is it a piece of junk? I can't help but wonder when I see auctions for the weapon, 2 20-round drums and 2 10-round clips for under $700. Also, is it considered a Class 3 weapon? Finally, I live in Connecticut. Will this nanny state even allow me to have one?Thanks,Fitz

    Are you sure the USAS-12 was a complete firearm for $700? There are parts kits circulating now so perhaps that explains a price of only one-half to one-third the market. The 20-round drums are probably worth close to that amount each by themselves so I cannot understand that price. Perhaps the shotgun you saw for $700 was not registered as a destructive device during the amnesty and is therefore contraband. Be sure to see the registration before buying. The transfer tax is $200 upon change of ownership. Be careful.Is the shotgun in question a Gilbert or a Inter-Ord? Both are very high quality and I consider them highly desirable. (Gilberts are worth more in my opinion.) My USAS-12 had a small ridge at the top of the feed ramp that caused an occasional mis-feed, but after I removed that ridge, it became totally reliable. If too light loads are used, you may experience a malfunction if there is not emough power to cycle the action.I do not know what local laws may apply to your state regarding this shotgun. Now that the shotgun has been reclassified as a destructive device, perhaps that will affect its state classification as well.Let us know if it is a Gilbert or Inter-Ord and whether it is registered.

    Thank you. After looking at it again, I see that you are right. It is only the drums and mags, but it sure is deceptive if you don't know what it's worth.I tried to post the link, but part of the the address disappeared when I hit submit.
