The scopes are not noted for robustness is a polite way to say it.The mounts have a tendency to wear and lose their POI.Someone once said something about getting what you pay for,$99 in this case.cpermd

Ok, gentlemen... you appear to have confirmed what I have heard. Hopefully, others will chime in with their opinion as there must be one lone soul out there that likes them. Isn't there... ? Or are there just more folks with baaaaad experiences. SA hasn't shipped the scope. True, $99 for the scope and rails is cheap. But if the whole setup is junk it's just $99 down a rathole and I would rather cancel the order and get something with a bit more quality. What are some viable alternatives; a moderately... priced set-up suitable to an M1A ?The primary use is target, 100-200 yards. Once installed it will likely stay installed. Sure, I would like some Leopold xyz or Nikon for $813 but it's out of my reach. Many appear to like the ARMS scope base at $180 (not cheap, but good). If this was a recommendation, suggestions as to what to go with it (scope/rings) ? Or other scope base/ring/optics alternatives ?Suggestions appreciated as peeing away $99 doesn't seem too exciting and I would rather not get the "special" at all if the objective is just to resell it.thanks !

After visiting my friend in Canada, I am using a 3rd gen mount, with Tasco ss10x42. Same scope he uses, he has 2 of them and swears by them. Check out his site. http://www.nucleus.com/~cronhelm/index.html check his military page, "M14" and his "a mile and beyond" For the SS go to www.swfa.com Mac

Mac,Thanks for the reply. The "mile shot" is kind of a kick. It's nice to see someone havin' good, clean fun... a mile out. By the bye, received a very nice reply from McCann on a scope mount for an M1A. The way things are shaping up, I am starting to believe that a McCann mount with the 6x40 SA might not be a bad set up. Gawd knows what I would do with the SA mount.enjoy

Dano,You were right. That's the good news and the bad news. Hard to find much on the LE12. (hard to find just about anything !)But thanks, anyway. The boards seem to believe that an ARMCORP mount or a McCann is a sure bet. Oddly, but then again perhaps not...., most of the gripes on the SA appear to be about the mount, not the scope itself. If I shove the SA6x40 on a McCann mount... maybe it turns out to be a very reliable setup. Hummmm... just musin' the options. Got to kick myself in the butt a bit though... here I am debating the esoterics of some pretty decent equipment yet I am gleefully stuck with a couple thousand rounds of Hirtenberger and Radway Green surplus that just seems to work great. Maybe I got a M1A with a wierd quirk as it just seems to gleefully eat surplus ammo up without issue (and with darn good consistency), leaving the shooter as... the weakest link. argh...

YepIt is the scope and mount both.Get a good steel 3 point mount and a Tasco SS 10X without the side focus and you will be set.cpermd
