45-70 loads with 400gr barnes solids...

45-70 with Barnes 400gr Solid Round Nose...Have any TFL gurus worked up loads with this combo?What load? what velocity?I think this would be a good combo for deep penetration. Please share your experience(s).Carl

    From what i have read and heard from eye witness accounts, it is not really the speed that you want, but excessiveamount of knock down power. A friend was on a recent trip to africa after cape buffs. I believe he said that he was told by the PF to use slower loads that way they do not blow through the animal. Rather they allow the animal to absorb all of the shock of the bullet causing greater devastation to the animal. Plus it will not kick as bad if that is another component that you are worried about. songdog
