I have a Colt Python polished SS with a 8" barrel. The gun is NIB. all paper work, carrying case, the cylinder has never been rotated. I bought the gun in 1993. gun serial number is PY3985 My question is, what's it worth? Thanks, I appreciate any help...[:D]

Call Colt in Hartford, Ct. 1-800-962-colt. Give them the sn, they can tell you the year of manufacture as well as the original finish.

If the gun is made of stainless then its not nickle plated...

One quick way to tell, but is not guaranteed, is that nickel has a slight yellowish hue to it. Bright stainless doesn't seem to have much color at all. Brushed or matte chrome looks similar to brushed stainless but has more of a grey hue.Disclaimer: These are just my observations, your results may vary.

Many stainless steel alloys are non-magnetic. I am not sure if this is true for a stainless Python though.
