Beretta differences?

Are there any real differences between the Italian and American made Beretta 92's? Any differences in the mags? were the fs models made before they came to the U.S.? Thanks.>bob[This message has been edited by burn1bob (edited 02-08-2002).]

  Interesting. I've got a 92FS which I just bought used. From the above I'd say it was made in Italy. But the factory clip is stamped with some language (don't remember exactly) indicating it was made in the U.S. What gives?

  The 92F was being made in this country for the government, then they were being done as a 92FS. The Italian plant was still supplying the guns for the public consumption (92,92S,92SB,92F,then 92FS). As the military contracts were becoming filled the US made ones started appearing at the distributors. At one point, both the US and Italian ones were available simultaneously. At that time and occassionally later, you'd find brand new from the factory, Italian guns coming with American mags and American guns with Italian mags. There was no ryhme or reason to it. I will agree about the fit and finish of the Italian ones, they were always better. The US plant was set up to make functional guns for the government. They weren't as concerned about how they looked. The triggers were consistantly better on the Italian ones too. I got my first Italian 92S 20 years ago. I still carry an Italian 92F today. When you can shoot a 99.6% consistantly the first time through on the PD qualification course, I figure why change. After the guns get used for a while it is harder to see the better finish on the Italian guns, but the trigger pull is still there.
