Removing a fingerprint in bluing

I discovered that I have a permanent fingerprint in the bluing in the side of a receiver of one of my rifles. I must have touched the receiver while putting the gun away in the safe. Any tricks on how to remove or lessen this without going through a rebluing process?Thanks for your help.

  I have had pretty good luck removeing minor rust stains with 0000 steel wool soaked with Hoppes no. 9. It may not completely remove it but will certainly lessen it.Go slowly and carefully. If over done it will remove blueing.

  he's right, but I would recommend bronze wool. The tiny particles that get into the gaps between the stock and metal will rust with steel wool. The bronze won't. I use a little rem-oil and rub very lightly under intense light.
