It's just a Limited Edition run of 1886's of which only 3000 were made. Manufactured in 1986. Suggested retail at the time was $965. In 100% condition NIB is worth about $1600 now.

Only 3000 high grades were made, but there were also 7000 grade 1's made in 1986. These were 100 year anniversary guns 1886-1986.I've got a grade one, I like it. The only bad thing if you're going to shoot it is the cresent steel butplate. OUCH!!

jd1, Hello your 1886 should have a ser. # XXXX, then some letters example PT (year), then #s like 197 (product code). I have seen them (High Gr.)with ser.# over 3000, so my guess would be they were mixed in the whole run for production reasons. I think each High Gr. had a Grade 1 matching # gun (set). Also the carbine came out a little later. Ps I have a Grade 1 set rifle & carbine unmatched from the factory ,but the dealer in Mich. got them together for me. Example on there #s 012XXPT197 & 012XXNY1C7. Hope this helps....
