Over penetrartion?
A while back I bought some Hornady 185 gr. XTP HP .45ACP ammo for a good deal at a gun show. It was for self defense. With such a light bullet, wouldn't it tend to over penetrate in a self defense scenario? Would a heavier (230+ gr.) bullet be better for this purpose?-Marcus

When you want more penetration you use a heaver bullet, not lighter.

The higher a bullet's sectional density, the greater its' penetration 0 -

I hate to do this but,Yes they are usually right. However, bullet construction is the main point.I have some 160 gr 45 ACP loads which will outpenetrate any 230.There are not many hard and fast rules, especially about rounds. My advice is to shoot them and 230 FMJ USGI ball through stuff and see which works. Those who answer here with a definite answer need to think very hard.Yes,I am in a bad mood tonight.I have had to work full time for three weeks and the damn Doctor I am covering for has 5 more weeks of maternity leave. Then her husband is taking off 4 weeks and I have to cover him.Since I am just a semi-retired part-time state employee,Arkansas won't pay more even though I am working 48 hrs a week for 12 weeks.Let me rant and blow off steam here or I will get in even more deep KaKa around UAMS.cpermd[This message has been edited by cpermd (edited 02-09-2002).] 0 -
Amen to the last post. Even the most knowledgable ballisticians need to test a round before they can call their theories correct. 0
