Depends on how he uses it whether it would be in violation of federal law. Whatever he makes with it has to be classified by the BATF as a firearm before he can be in violation of any laws.Making your own firearms is a big grey area, and unless you either use it in a crime or try to sell it, I wouldn't worry about getting in trouble.

How about some source info for the barrel? I'm aware of the law concerning barrel length and this has nothing to do with that. I plan to make two pistol bore liners for C&B pistols. Thanks for trying. Robert

Dixie Gun Works lists a rifled .45 cal liner.Don't see a smoothbore but it wouldn't hurt to ask. www.dixiegunworks.com

If you're going to have to bore out the barrels anyway, you could also make your own liners by boring out an old barrel. There are people selling rifled liners in the Gun List.

Thanks to all for your interest. Here is more detail. I have a fine Colt C&B revolver with a damaged bore. I plan to bore it out and sleeve it. The original bore has gain twist. I will use another similar revolver as a guide and rifle the sleeve to duplicate the original. I have the know how, experience and equipment to do this. I have barrel material that I can bore out. My request was to find a piece of barrel and avoid the boring and reaming. Many thanks to all who responded. I should have given more info in the beginning and save you the trouble. Robert
