I am wondering about the value of a Huglu shotgun that my husband and I purchased while we lived in Turkey. It's a 12 gauge over-and-under. I don't know much else about it but would love a ballpark figure. Thanks so much.

Sort of like buying a Mossberg without the name recognition. Probably a sound mechanical device, probably as good at tossing a load of shot as any... But never a fine gun. Then again... What would you expect at the price? Enjoy the gun for what it is. Don't try to dress it up as no amount of work will change the fact that it's a utility piece.Enjoy!

I have a friend who did a couple of years at Incirlik back in the '80's. He bought an O/U Huglu 12 ga. that he still shoots. I don't recall the figures, but he says he's been offered considerably more than he paid for it.He tells me how back then you could go to the factory and have their shotguns custom fitted for you at no extra cost. Is this still the case?He also says the Turks make excellent shotguns, but the crappiest ammo you've ever seen. He told tales of having shot roll out of the barrel when you lowered the muzzle after firing.[This message has been edited by Txs (edited 02-05-2002).]

Huglu shotguns are being advertised in Gun List for a little over $300. Had my dealer check up and found they wanted an order for three to get dealer price. Didn't order. I did buy a Turk Sarcilmaz O/U 12 ga cost $350 including shipping, dealer ten percent and sales tax. Gun is a plain jane with beautiful wood, good fit and finish, but checkering has a lot of run overs. Last time I was out of US, if you buy overseas you cannot import it as an individual. Must go to/thru a FFL holder. Hope this helps.

I'm at Incirlik AB too, but cannot say I know if the factory does any kind of custom fitting--I'll try to find out. Thanks for the responses!

You should know that Huglu has two different shotgun lines, one for the US market and one for local sale. The US guns have a much higher fit and finish, and more attention to cosmetic detail. The base guns (U0/S0) are fairly plain but still are several huge steps above the Baikals, etc, that dominate that price range. The top-end guns are actually very very nice, especially in value-for-the-buck.
