Winchester Model 62 ??
I have a winchester 22 rifle that looks like it has a model 61 frame and a model 62 barrel! The guy I got it from swears he bought it new just as it is! The barrel is stamped model 62, yet it has the side ejection and no hammer like a 61 model! the serial # is 67818. It doesn't look to have been reblued or fooled with and is in excellent shape!! Could anything like this have gotten out of the factory or what have I got???

I ran your ser# 2 ways for mdl 61 the mfg date is 1947 for mdl 62 62A it's 1947Hope this helps you some. What is your barrel length and is it chambered for S, L, LR, WRF?I would guess it was rebarreled 0 -
Ref: 'The Winchester Book', by Mr. G. Madis, page 540: "... Replacement barrel blanks of 23" in length, of round shape, from model 62 production were used to assemble a few thousand of the last model 61. These have the usual model 61 markings." 24" barrels for the m61 were standard. I would guess that your barrel is a post production replacement. Mainly because the serial numbers of rifles in the above paragraph were in the 34x,xxx range as well as the m62 markings that are present. Check under the barrel to see if there is a oblong circle with a "P" in it. This would signal a mail order replacement barrel. Otherwise it could be a 'take off' of a m62 for some other reason. 0 -
