let me get this straight----a dealer in my state can ship to me?

I think thats the message I'm getting here
a dealer can ship a firearm to a non--FFL holder in the same state? if it makes any difference----I reside in Alabama.

    State has no juristiction, federal law. Yes, a dealer or NON-dealer may ship to you (non-licensed person) in same state. I have the exerpt from BATF, if you'd like to see it post your email and I will send it to you.

    Antique dealer-- Jump in there and straighten this out. You are a dealer and know the rules. Don't let this guy get away with a misconception.I would, but it's been several years since I was a dealer...and a few of the "fine points" of the rules have changed since then. But I would be willing to bet a week's wages that guns can't be shipped to a non-licensed person, with the possible exception of the factory returning a gun for repair.

    Tazmutt is correct to a point.There is a very little known about green colored 4473...Part II, that allows direct shipment of long guns. BATF doesn't try talk about it, the Inspectors dance around it often giving incorrect info, and they scrutinize those sales, and your records. It is a paperwork, and time pain, plus not any cheaper to ship. It does help eliminate dealers who are not willing to work with other dealers Dealer fills it out, sends it to the Chief Local County LEO ie. County Sheriff via registered , return recipt mail.After recieving the 'Return Receipt', waiting seven working days, if a denial, or hold is not issued either by phone, or in writing, the long gun may be shipped direct.The exclusion is the Federal requirement that the States laws be also followed. So, if there are conflicting state laws then direct shipment cannot be done.

    who are you trying to buy from, I live in Bama also, not too long ago I saw an add in shotgun news, so I called them up to get 1 & see where there shop was, they informed me they didnt have a shop, so I ask about mailing it to me, they said no only another FFL, bad thing was they are only about 45 minutes from my house. so guess it depends, dont know if this was the law or the way they do it ?

    In a private sale between two non FFL holders in the same state, (if the state does not specifically prohibit it)no restriction on how the firearm is delivered exists in federal law...Fed. jurisdiction is for ALL inter(between different)state transfers and ALL transfers licensee to licensee and from a licensee to a non-licensee.All of these transfers must be recorded and retained.
