Question about an old Winchester

I have a 1873 Winchester 38-40 with octagon barrel in very good shape but missing the dust cover. Can anyone tell me what it might be worth? Thanks

  Is it a rifle or carbine. What is the serial number (such as 123XX). Pistol grip? Checkered stock? Barrel length if a rifle? Is it Blue,plum, gray, brown, case hardened? How is the bore? Anybody real important ever own it that you can prove? With these answers we can come within a few hundred $ of its value, maybe.
