375 ultra mag
In shopping for a heavy weight for hunting Alaska, I have ran across the new ultra mag, the 375. Have any of you made the purchase? reloaded? I was thinking a 338 ultra, but then I started to read about the 375. I am not looking for a 500 yard gun, more in the 300 and down range. I do have a 7mm rem mag and a 300 win mag. What do you keepers of devine knowledge think? suggest?? Thanks in advance for your thoughts

I do not know what game you will be after, but if it can claw or bite me I would prefer lots of power. That said, I have fired neither round mentioned but own a .338 Win Mag and fired a .375 H&H several times. The Ultra Mags have significant increase in velocity (read also recoil). Also, all things being equal (velocity, weight etc.) the .338 will penetrate further than the .375 due to better sectional density. 0 -
More important than what is where will you hunt.This great state is a huge place and luggage often ends up where you aren't.Pick a rifle that takes readily available ammo. 0 -
Thanks for the replies, Bear and Moose are the 2 claw ya bite ya run ya over animals. I am thinking the 375 um because of its energy and penitration. I believe it was april American hunter where the gun went to Africa, and with the swift a frame bullet, it performed pretty awsome on cape bufs. I'm thinking that if that load is pushing through 50 to 60 inches of cape, it should work for me. I will have the 300 win mag as aback up if something happens with baggage. 0 -
