What Exactly is a Weaver Mount?
What exactly is a weaver mount, and does my Ruger KP95 have one?Also, if it doesn't, what options do I have to add accessories that are designed for a weaver mount?I'm thinking about putting a holosight on and it fits a weaver. Does the weaver mount the sight to the base as opposed to the slide? I'm wondering if the holosight rides back and forth on the slide. That would seem odd.Thanks for the help.

Holosight on a P95? I suggest you look into the Tasco Optima2000. It is about 1"x3/4" and mounts directly on your rear sight base(provided that you get the correct mount for it). It has the same function as the holosight but in a miniaturized package. I have one of these and have tried it on an AR15, Benelli M1S90, Ruger 10/22 etc. To answer your other question, NO your P95 does not have a weaver base. -Smooth

A weaver mount for a handgun would be flat on the top with several cross cuts for the scope to mount into. You would need this mount to attach the Holosight to you gun. You can check with B-Square 1-800-433-2909or Aimtech 1-912-226-4313 to see if they make such a mount for your gun. The mount will either attach to the frame or grip of the gun and come up an over the top of the slide. The mount then would not move and neither would the Holosight. The slide would move just below the mount and sight. Holosights work very well on handguns.I believe that B-Square does make such a mount for your particular gun. Check out www.b-square.com for their on-line catalog. Thanks to all.Saxon....I'm thinking about the optics because I have dominance issues (settle down Pelican....I don't want to be spanked). I am left eye dominant but right handed. I think a holosight or the Tasco Optima2000 would probably help. Also, I am a bit of a gadget freak!Again, thanks to all. HiCap, Did you find a mount yet? I think you will appreciate the holosight more than the Tasco. If Tasco had small dot they would have more users. But if they ad a small dot they would cost 175.00 too!! 0 -
Groundhog;No, I haven't decided on a sight yet. I really like the holosight, but it seems a bit large for my weapon. Don't really want anything that cumbersome.The Tasco Optima 2000 looks great (size wise), but I don't know if I will like the retical. I need to go see on in person. Also, I've heard rumors that Tasco is dropping the Optima 2000. That gives me pause. Wonder what they know that I don't? I would hate to buy the sight and then not be able to get parts, help, etc. 0 -
When people refer to 'weaver style' mounts, they are talking about the edge system. Weaver style mounts work on 45 degree angles, look down the end of one may look like this <______> ... everything works off those < > angles.
Weaver has been around a long time (why that style is called 'weaver style'), but there are many better quality mounts out there, I should know, I used to work in the Weaver dept, making upwards of 1000s of bases in one shift on a cheap CNC machine!
At times we had more mounts in the returns dept than in stock !!
Leupold or Burris or the gun manufacturer are going to make and carry a weaver style mount, that they made, which I'm sure is going to be made with more care than what I used to pump out.
