Gun Test Magazine
Anyone have strong oppinions on this publication. Do you find your personnel findings to be consistent/inconsistent to their reports. I read lots of ariticals, but you just never know who you can believe.

I did subscribe to this publication some time ago. They accept no advertising, so are basically telling it as they see it. They also buy the guns they test from gun shops, so they are not getting them "hand picked" from the factory. I did not always agree with everything they said based upon my personal experience. 0 -
I think they are more objective than any other publication I know of. I too don't always agree with their opinions but by the same token both of us could buy the same car & have a different experience with it. I think it's a good source to start any assessment then judge for yourself. RG 0 -
Found them to be very objective. Almost wished they could provide more personal feeling about the items tested. Would subscribe, but lost their address. Best, Robert

IMHO, it is a major waste of trees and money. I subscribed for two years, beginning with the first issue. While they do "test guns as though an individual bought it", when there was a problem, they trashed the gun and did no follow thourgh like a real buyer would (i.e., send if back to the company, see if they fixed the gun, how was the service, etc.).Plus (and this is a big issue I have with them), they came to conclusions using insufficient statistics, samples, etc. As in ammo performance. Shoot 5 shots, have 1 flyer and say the ammo is bad. BOGUS! I wrote them with an explaination about how to properly test and how to draw VALID conclusions (this was a very friendly letter, simply offering my years of experience and degrees free of charge). I never heard from them.So, given that they don't understand statistical analysis and misuse data to draw false conclusions, have no interest in learning how to do it correctly, and don't follow though - it is a pile of do-do.Also, Rick Jamison who writes for Shooting Times is the only gun-mag writer who DOES understand how to accurately draw conclusions and uses real (and sufficient) data to support those statements! 0 -
I have been reading GT since it first came out and also take its sister publication, the American Gunsmith.Pluses:They take no advertising and don't have to cater to the gun manufacturers like other magazines. Ever notice how a featured gun in G&A or Shooting Times usually has a full page ad for it in the same issue? Ever had one of those magazines criticize a gun, any gun?Extremely objective, to a fault. If they find anything wrong they tell you: fit, finish, reliability,sights,recoil, accuracy, whatever.Knowledgable writers - True, they don't have some of he "big name" writers as the other magazines, but they know their stuff.Minuses:Brutally unforgiving - they will rate a pistol a "don't buy" for any of a multitude of faults. I own some of their "don't buys" and would buy them again.Small sample - they test one gun, purchased from a retailer. If that sample is in any way bad, they assume that is representational of the entire model. Their philosophy is that every piece ought to work perfectly, the first time, right out of the box. Maybe that is not such a bad philosophy.They love Ruger, Glock, Sig and Beretta. Not so high on Colt and S&W. Draw your own conclusions. 0 -
I subscribed for two years and agree with most of the pluses and minuses listed above. I dropped the subscription because my primary interest is rifles and they review mostly pistols. In the two years, they only reviewed two pistol categories that were of interest to me. I figgured two years was enough to see if they had anything to offer for my money and concluded they did not. 0
