22-250 Ackley Improved

How much would it cost to rechamber a Rem 700varmint from 22-250 Ackley Improved back tothe factory chambered 22-250? Stainless barrel. I do not reload.Thank you much.

  As far as I know there is no going back short of putting a new barrel on the rifle. It does not hurt to fire factory 22-250 ammo in the rifle. The brass will be fireformed to the Ackley configuration but will not affect accuracy.

  THE ACKLEY SHOULDERS ARE "BLOWN OUT" WITH A 40 DEGREE ANGLE. iT CAN'T BE RE-CHAMBERED FOR THE ORIGINAL 22-250. IS THE GUN NEW?

  JustC-- The rifle is used. What would it cost to remove the barrel, rethread, rechamber, and reinstall? What would a new40X 22-250 barrel cost?

  I don't know if Remington will seel the parts (barrel) to you seperatly. Lots of companies have been getting away from selling parts/actions etc. to the public. I wanted to just buy new 700 receivers and was told that wouldn't be possible. I would suggest a hart/lilja/pacnor etc barrel blank. They all have their respective websites. The cost of the barrel, and the gunsmithing including pillar bedding usually runs me around $450. But, I use very heavy barrels (nothing less than .875 ) and they are usually longer than most factory stuff. A smaller contour barrel and shorter length could be much less. Contact a reputable gunsmith and ask him for a price on the labor. cpermd may be able to tell you more as to weather Remington will sell you a 40x barrel, he seems to be fluent in their products. I build mine most of the time, so all I can realisticly offer with confidence is the custom prices. P.S. is the barrel fluted? how many rounds through it? I think you can see where I am headed with this, I may help to aleviate some of your cost by adding that barrel to my spare parts cabinet if you wish to let it go.

  if this is the rem. varmit contour barrel it should be possible to cut the chamber off and rethread and rechamber the barrel. i usualy charge about $100 for this if you don't mind were the printing on the barrel lines up and a few scuff marks on the blueing.
