12 Gauge mangnum compatability
I recently was given 4 cases of 12 gauge 3" Magnum shells. Are shotguns like handguns where you have a special magnum shotgun to shoot these shells or can you shoot them in any modern shotgun? Thanks for your help.

The shotgun has to have a 3" chamber, which should be clearly marked on the barrel.Do not fire these shells in a gun with a 2 3/4" chamber only. 0 -
Wish somebody would give me 4 cases of`um.Just sending this back to the top, actually .218 0 -
Would it hurt the accuracy of the shotgun if I had my 2 3/4" reamed out to 3"? There would be 1/4" too much chamber when I shot the 2 3/4" round. I want to shoot both sizes through the same shotgun. I am thinking about doing this to a Winchester pump with the winchoke system. Thanks again for your help! 0 -
It wont hurt as long as it is done correctly. All 3" chamber guns are marked 2 3/4 and 3" shells only. The shorter shells can be used in the larger chambers. Same thing as a 38 special in a 357 magnum if that helps. 0 -
I seem to remember at one time, remington recomended against using a barrel for 3" shells on their standard receiver. Something to do with ejection problems. The 3" shells wouldn't clear the receiver?? I'm not sure if it was true or just a rumor. 0 -
Mr. Lobo,What model Remington do you have? I have a model 870 wingmaster chambered for 2 3/4" shells. I found a Remington 870 barrel in a local pawn shop that was chambered for 3" shells. I have not taken the receiver down there to see if the 3" chambered barrel will fit. I hope someone that knows about the interchangability will answer the question. The barrel I found is reasonably priced at $55.00(has Win choke set up but no screw in tubes). Maybe you should check around for a used barrel. 0 -
I found one with 2 3/4" & 3" chanber. All I had to do is dig deep enough. Thanks for your help everyone. 0
