Yeah, I remeber that post and even made mention in some of my replies. Now, from what I hear, the stainless DOES keep eat down better than the blue, but not by much. Aesthetics is the only reason I can think of to spend the extra money on a stainless. As for the standard model, I hear disappointing things about it. It's advertised as a target rifle right out of the box, but have heard several buyers say otherwise. I recommend you go with a standard 10/22, especially if you are just refining your technique. They are good for thousands of rounds so buying it used is a safe bet also. Used they run about 120-150. If you want to upgrade to get a more accurate shot, there is a whole slew of aftermarket parts designed for just that. I'm going to see if I can find the website of I friend I have who has EXCELLENT prices on 10/22 accessories... It'll help you get ideas if you want an upgrade. BRB...

If the increased corrosion value offered by stainless steel is unimportant then go with the blue, and just remember to wipe it down occassionally and clean it after shooting. Unless you plan to have an accuracy job done on your 10/22 (bull barrel, etc.) I'd start with the target model for your expressed purposes.

stainless will hold more value in the future, although we are not talking about a McMillian or anything like that, it will sell for $40-50 more. The barrel wear will be less, but you are talking a rimfire 22lr with low pressures. The cleaning aspect is another issue, the stainless cleans up (inside) faster.

Let me see if this works... I have a 10/22 "Fast-action ultra light," exactly like the one shown, minus the scope and a few internal components. Bought the gun used for 135, and the parts ran about 160. It's a great rifle. http://dev.bay-town.com/members/hermantom/Gallery_of_Guns/Gallery Guns 10-09-01.html
