Ruger 77-44

Need some advice please. Been thinking of getting into hunting once I complete the hunter safety class and have been told a good rifle to start with is the Ruger 77-44. Would welcome anyones comments on this.Thanks.

  What will you be hunting? Under what conditions of terrain and weather?

  I am in California and would be looking at hunting mainly wild pig. Terrain and weather is not that tough, mainly dry. Thanks.

  Sounds like a good choice. I used to hunt pigs in Los Padres and around Hunter Liggett Military Reservation. Very brushy. A .44 is adequate. I might opt for Ruger's new semi-auto for fast repeat shots. Pigs can move pretty fast with a little incentive.
