HOPKINS & ALLEN SHOTGUN
I HAVE A HOPKINS & ALLEN 12 GA. SINGLE SHOT, MADE IN NORWICH CONN. USA. NUMBER ON RECEIVER & BARREL IS 58257. I HAVE REBLUED BARREL & RECEIVER AND REFINISHED STOCK. IT LOOKS GREAT & SHOTS GOOD. IS THIS GUN FROM 1930? IS IT SAFE TO SHOT? DOES IT HAVE DAMASCUS STEEL BARREL? WHAT IS IT WORTH? SHOULD THIS GUN BE BLUED OR BROWN FINISH?

According to my references Hopkins & Allen, Norwich, Connecticut made only single barrell shotguns and from 1868 to 1917. So yours could be damascus steel or fluid steel. Generally speaking you can tell damascus by the rings or patterns in the steel. If it is fluid steel and in good operable condition dealers at a gun show would ask $75 - $100. If damascus, there is not much demand and not worth the risk to fire it. 0
