got a old h&r 12 ga. and would like to find out the approx. ageno model on the gun, but i believe it to be a model 6it has the words "12 ga. choke" on the top of the breech and on one side of the reciever it has a pat. date of feb. 27 1900i don't think it's original the barrel length is 20" so i think it's been cut-offany info would be helpful 0 -
The Model 6 was also called the Heavy Breech Single Barrell Hammer shotgun. Made, I believe, from 1908 till discontinued in 1942. Barrell lengths were 28" to 36". Current asking prices at gun shows for those in good+ condition around $100. 0 -
John has a great memory. Checked the Blue Book which agrees with everyting he says except price, and they give it a lower value. Most of the H&R models are valued as shooters not for collections, but he is likely closer to real value than the book. 0 -
HeDog, I can't even remember where I parked my truck at Wal-Mart! But I do have a few pretty good ref books, and over the years got to know where to look. Old Rifleman mags are good sources too. 0 -
It is interesting that the patent date is 1900 and it appears production did not begin until 1908. I don't know enough about H & R shotguns to know what that means. Perhaps they bought the patent. 0
