I've never used one, but I've never heard any negative comments on the new Weaver scopes on any of the forums on the internet.

I am a 22-250 varminter myself, so I know the agony of finding the right scope to complement the rest of your set-up. In my experience, the old steel tube Weavers were the best ever made by the company. Haven't cared for them since. I have had the opportunity to have quite a few different rifles/scope combos and I don't think you can beat a Leupold. If price is your worry then check out CheaperThanDirt.com. You can purchase the affordable Var-x II for a little over $200.00 or the Var-x III for $400-$570.00 depending on reticle, finish and power. You won't regret the money you spend. Remember that this is like anything else, you get what you pay for.

I have several of the older Weaver scopes and they were decent to very good scopes FOR THEIR TIME. They can't hold a candle to some of the better scopes of today. They simply did not have the full multi coatings, and the glass is not better than the glass of today. In optics, you can buy inexpensive instruments that are better than anything you could buy at any price (excepting perhaps Unertl) 40 years ago. Take a look at www.bearbasin.com for another reliable source of scopes at as good of prices as I can find anywhere.

Can't comment on the newer Weavers but had a K-6 mounted on a Winchester .220 Swift in the 60's. Zeroed it 2" high at 100 yards, never had to touch it after that. Took coyotes and red tailed hawks. (When the hawks were legal.) Longest shot was a red tail. Held in the head area. Paced the shot off at 380 yards. What more could you ask?

I'm still using a Remington 722 in .222, with a ten power weaver w/ao head, never had a problem. They are fairly cheap at shows.

Thanks for the input.Between the Bearbasin and Natchezss catologs for scope prices one should not have to look much farther.

You may want to compare cheaperthandirt and natchezss for they beat each other on different models.

Sir, from my experience with the newer Weaver 4-16's on several rifles, I would not be afraid to try the 6-24. I have one 4-16 on a 7mm STW that has around 250 shots through it and no problems. The brightness may not match a Vari X-III, but I have not compared them at the same time either. But they are about half the cost also.
