There are a few catchesAn FAL can be assembled right now with a metric Imbel receiver and a nice G1 kit.The parts will cost $360.Setting the locking shoulder for headspace is the only hard part and it is not that bad.It will need refinishing.Mechanically they are nice.It must be assembled in Postban form which requires losing the FH and BL and must have 7 US made parts. This adds another $100.You will hear other names but this guy http://www.investmentgradefirearms.com/ is VERY good if you want a perfect running and looking FALcpermd

Thanks for the reply. Living in CA, having the rifle built around a CA-legal receiver is only way to go. I found a local shop that will assemble the gun, but get this. When they actually hand over the completed gun to me, it will be without the pistol grip attached. For it to be legal from their point of view, this I must install myself (I'll do it in the parking lot). Such a crazy state I live in! My question is about this US-made part requirement. The guy I spoke with mentioned this, but said that they just assemble the gun, not check for legality. That, he said, is my responsibility. Fine with me, but I want to be legal. The part kit I want is an IMBEL import. I'm assuming that it will contain no US-made parts. Can I assume that the CA-legal receiver will contain the required number of parts? Is this something that I really need to worry about, given that my guy will put together whatever parts I give him? Do people really get busted for assembling these kinds of rifles with too few US-made parts? Thanks!
