Winchester 101 choke question
Prior to coming out with Win-chokes, what was considered normal? Modified over improved cylinder, or just the opposite?

Mine has the winchokes, but typically when shooting, you want to shoot your lower barrel first and then your upper barrel. Shooting the lower barrel first keeps the barrel down and allows you to keep your eye on the target in case a second shot is desired. I would think it should be mod over ic. 0 -
The tighter constriction is on top. That's why non selective single trigger guns fire the bottom barrel first, to hit the closer target with the more open choke.
The more people I meet, the more I like my dogs.0 -
The gun I have is fixed in 20 ga. with full over mod. Why would they make a 20 ga. with that configuration in fixed choke? Do some folks hunt ducks and larger birds with a 20 ga.? I would think that in a 20 ga. modified over improved cylinder would be the norm. Since I only hunt upland game birds, I am taking it to Briley's to ream it mod. over imp. cyl. Good idea? 0 -
From my "handle" you can tell what I had rather hunt. However, I am not allergic to hunting dove, pheasant, and ducks. A 20 gauge O/U is what I use for them. By the way--no pheasants in Florida--have to go to relatives in Kansas to hunt pheasants. It is choked full over modified and I find it perfect for the job(s).If I were going to the trouble to send it to Briley, I would have them put "tubes" in it. Then you can have skeet over cylinder bore if you like--especially if the quail will hold tight in front of the bird dog or whatever combination you think is good for that day's particular situation. (I have both German Short-haired Pointers and German Wire-haired Pointers. If you are not prepared to deal with "alpha" dogs don't get either of them.)[This message has been edited by AdamsQuailHunter (edited 01-13-2002).] 0 -
