Ar15 1/7 twist vs. 1/9

    Depends on the bullet you are shooting as to which is best. Up to about 62 grain bullets the 1in9 is best, 62-80 a 1in 7. The reason being for the heavier bullets you need a faster twist for stabilazition. Personally I shoot mostly 69 grain Serria HPBT Match and I like the 1 in 8, it gives me more versitility in my loads.

    i found all my answers to the same questionon ar15.com , sign on to that site then click onto forums , then ammo . when that loads click onto ammo faq . you'll find excellant reading on this subject .barrel twist , length ,and bullet styles are are there .

    In real life the 1/9 is "better"Wears less quicklyStabilizes up to 78 grain bulletsJust barely works for the long tracer bullets.cpermd

    1:7 better for stabilizing the heavy, very low drag bullets (VLD) at the longer distances. I like the 1:9 for closer in and the 1:7 for "across the field" type of shooting. Ditto on the AR15.com for loading data and FAQ's.
