Dakota is a model/marketing name of European-made "copies" of the Colt Single Action Army revolver. Today they are imported by EMF (Early & Modern Firearms, Santa Ana,CA) and have been for quite a long time. They have mostly been made by Armi Jager and Armi San Marco of Italy, but yours may be a very early one made by Hammerli in Switzerland--OR--Hammerli may refer to their patented safety system which involves putting the hammer on half cock, pushing the cylinder retaining latch that releases the cylinder pin, and while holding it in, push the cylinder pin toward the rear. It will protrude from the rear of the frame a short distance and prevent the hammer from falling into the fire position. Your revolver may well have been made in Italy and utilized the Swiss safety system, or may have been manufacutred in Switzerland. You will have to inspect the frame for proof marks and determine their national origin. Value: approx. $325 in like new condition. $250 in 95% conditon. 0
