SSSSHHHH I'm buyin another one w/Boss sys
Who can tell me how the boss system works on a Browning Stalker II (SS/Composit) in 300 Win Mag. I kinda know what it's for, but why(or when)do you adjust - for a specific bullet weight or charge? But you CAN NOT tell my Wife.......

The Boss is designed to adjust your barrel to achieve the maximum accuracy from any bullet/load combination. Note: This does not guarantee that any load will shoot accurately; only that you will derive the best benefit for that load from your individual barrel. This goes back to the idea of harmonics. If you take a sound picture of a barrel as a bullet is traveling down the barrel it resembles a boa constrictor swallowing an egg. There is a shock wave and barrel distortion that follows the path of the bullet right down the barrel to the muzzle. This is why free floating barrel will usually improve accuracy as the barrel is not in contact with the stock and isn't moved as much by the shock wave contacting the stock. The Boss addresses the harmonics problem by changing the pattern of how the barrel vibrates by adjusting the Boss device until the accuracy results are consistent. By turning the Boss toward or away from the muzzle you are moving the weight of the device forward or backward and the result is to change the harmonics; or put another way, the way in which the barrel vibrates. The goal is to find the "sweet spot" at which that particular load/bullet shoots as closely as possible to the same point of impact. So, I guess the short answer would have been that you adjust the Boss for every different load, but if you keep track of where the position of the Boss is for that particular load you shouldn't have to do it again. 0 -

I have a stainless/synthetic Ruger M77 MKII in .223. Can the Boss be installed aftermarket by a gunsmith? If so, where can this be purchased? 0 -

Idsman- A friend of mine called Browning and asked if it could be installed on his pre-boss Browning. He was told it couldn't be done. Supposedly the barrels used for the Boss system are "special". This same friend suspects it is a marketing ploy to sell more guns with the system. 0
