I have been offered a 1851 Navy Colt for Quite a bit of money I might add , but was wondering how can I be sure this gun is not stolen and how can I protect myself in the event that it was.I don't want to invest this kind of money an take a chance on losing it.The owner say's he has had it for about 10 years and is in need of some money so he's going to sell it.The gun is in very good shape, about the best condition that I have seen.     Beware of reproductions "aged" to look like an original.Best to have it checked by an expert.
