How much are they worth???

I have a friend whose grandfather just past away. He left all of his guns to him in his will. There are around 30 or 35 guns. There are a wide variety from new rifles, shotguns, and pistols.....to stuff that dates back well into the 1800's..... He is not very familiar with guns and wanted to know the best way of finding out how much they are all worth without spending tons of money doing it. Please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.

  The Blue Book is a great suggestion. If you can identify the guns by make and model number you might get an idea by checking the internet auctions and seeing what the same item SELLS for. No credibility should be given to the minimum bid and reserve prices.It is essential in establishing value to know how to evaluate the condition. Pictures in the Blue Book will help in that respect. Reblued guns will bring a lot less than original finish guns.

  Also buy The Standard Catalog of Firearms. It's worth the investment. You could look up gun auction history on the several auction sites once you've IDed the guns.Understanding the NRA condition classifications is key to obtaining realistic values.

  Both reference books mentioned are good starting points but I've noticed that the Standard Catalog has got some errors in regard to Czech firearms so you half to cross reference with other books to get a good idea of true value.
