I don't personally own one so I can't give any feedback but you can find them in shotgun news.

I don't think Makarovs are usually thought of as collectibles, but when considering items for ones personal collection I always go with personal preference. It is your collection, put what you want in it. Secondly, I have yet to own a gun that I didn't like. I agree with prebanfan, shotgun news is a great place to find them. Gunbroker.com has a slew of Makarovs if you have a FFL holder near you and gun shows usually have their share as well.

mHanson,I own and have handled several Makarovs. They are one of the most overlooked best preforming pistols for the money. I personally recommend the FEG Pa63 Model over the traditional Bulgarian Makarov. The Makarov has a Fixed barrel which makes it very accurate. They are extremely reliable and the standard round 9mm Makarov (Not to be confused with 9x19 Luger/Parabellum) is not an uncommon round. The Makarov has the mag ejection button on the bottom of the weapon, whereas the Pa63 has a button located on the right side of the weapon behind the trigger. The Pa63 is much slimmer and lighter due to it's alloy frame. The round is rather stout, but it's very tollerable. You can purchase a Makarov in excellent condition from www.southernohiogun.com . They also carry the Pa63 for 89$.Here is a picture of the Makarov and here is the Pa63 Good luck...Munkey[This message has been edited by thesupermonkey (edited 01-04-2002).]

Check out Makarov.com. Lot's of great info on these great little guns, sometimes referred to as the "AK 47 of pistols." Heavy, yet utterly reliable, unbelievably inexpensive, surprisingly accurate. "Collectible" is kind of a relative term. Ask any Makarov collector who has tried to get an East German in excellent condition, or a Russian military. Bulgarians seem to be the best deal at this time. Can be gotten from SOG or JG's for a little over $100. Quality and performance is as good as any Makarov. Avoid the Hungarian PA-63. It's a Makarov-caliber, PP clone that isn't considered to be a real Makarov. Good luck.

As it was stated above, go to Makarov.com, they are outstanding to deal with. I have through intensive research found that parts for the PA-63 can be hard to come by. I have heard the gun getting slammed a lot by people that dont sell them, I dont know though. I have 1 Bulgarian Makarov, it is awesome, I get 1.5" groups for 8 rds. at 15 yds. Its a self defensive gun, and that is a lot better than anyone needs for self defense. I've shot 3 brands of ammo with 95 gr. bullets and they all shoot to the same point of impact on the target. I buy my ammo off of cheaperthandirt.com and recommend Master Cartridge brand ammo in the 9x18, if they are out, its worth the wait, thats why they're out. Dont let anyone talk you out of one, I ordered another, I pick it up Monday. I bought mine from warbirds@voyager.net, they sell them here on GB. They are awesome people to deal with, send them an email. These are UNISSUED Bulgarians, not the cheaper ones you see at 99.00 that are in good to excellent cond. Tell M. that I sent you. Happy Shooting. Rob.

I bumped into an Iowa State Policeman a few years back who carried his normal duty weapon and, in addition, a Makarov as his backup. If the FEG PA-63 is anything like the F.E.G. Hi-Power clone, I'd go with it based on reliability and accuracy (not to mention all of the gun that you get for the price). Buy the Makarov if your heart is set on one. Both are great guns and inexpensive.

I am very happy with my PA-63. It almost looks like a PPK and handles very nice. J & G Sales in Prescott, AZ handles lots of them. Look at their ad in Shotgun News.
