Refininshing Aluminum
Is there an easy home workshop way to apply or refinsh firearm aluminum parts? I have refinsihed all parts except the trigger housing on a Remington shotgun and would prefer something better than paint. Thanks in advance for your help. Thanks!

really nothing you can do to recolor aluminum. The so-called Aluminum black that is similar to cold bluing works well if the part is not subject to any handling; otherwise, it wears off quickly. You would need to have a professional anodizing job, or use the spray on/bake on type finish if the part is subject to rubbing. 0 -
Brownells has a product called Aluma-Hyde it's a spray like dull black paint that wears excellent.I have seen whole guns sprayed with this and looked very good.Hope this helps.

I have had good results with Krylon black stove paint, shot in two or three light coats and baked overnight in the oven at about 200 degrees. Smells up the kitchen though.

Dano... I was investigating the powdercoating process for some aluminum receivers and other parts...Thought for sure it would put an end to scratches and bright spots shining thru....I was right >>>>BUT 0 -

this is gonna sound funny...... but Jegs and Summit racing both used to sell a home powder coating kit, I have used it on several occasions, I can't find the catalogs, but you bake it on it your oven, and it is pretty tough

j2k22, Reanodize. Try to find a machine shop that will work with you. Anodizing is dirt cheap in quantity. You don't want to send 1 piece there. If you can find someone that will help, the cost for 231 pieces comared to 232 pieces isn't squat! Hard coat teflon is also a possibility. Both will not bother your assembly tolerances. If you can't find a solution - e-mail me.jeffrysmith@prodigy.net
