22-WRF Stevens
Just left the Pawn Shop with this.
No model #.
No serial #.
All it has is:
J.Stevens Arms Company.
Chicopee Falls.Mass.USA.
Just left of the rear sight is: 22-WRF
On the left of bbl, just in frt of reciever is
a circle w/the # 14 in it.
It has a 24" bbl.,plain steel butt plate,chrome bolt
and is a takedown.It's 41" overall,has fingergroove
stock and is a single shot.
I'd put it at about 85%
What is it?What's it worth? When made?
Any and all responses are appreciated.
Happy New Year!!

Maybe it's a model 53 Stevens.

Since we're looking for Stevens experts, I also have a J Stevens .22 long rifle. Tube magazine fed, no S/N or Model #, bolt action. Been in my family a long time. Would like to know more about it.

Whats next? A ban on automatic transmissions?0 -
I guess my main question is the "22-WRF".
Does that mean it will shoot S,L,LR?
All of the above?None of the above?
Happy New Year!!

.22WRF was the Magnum of its day...Introduced in 1890...Bigger than .22 Short, Long and Long Rifle..Won't chamber in any of the above...and vice-versa..

You're in luck. I hear tell that Aquila is producing .22 WRF ammo.
The Old Western Scrounger has it.
Please do NOT try .22 WMR in this gun!!!0 -
Winchester has made a couple of runs of WRF ammo, once in 1986 and once in 1994. CCI is now producing HP WRFs for a little over $5.00-$5.50 a box. There is always WRF ammo on the auction, but you can probably find it at any major gun dealer or a local gunshow.
Do not confuse it with WMRF Winchester magnum rim fire. It's WRF only, don't be tempted to try S, L, LRs in this gun. WRFs can be shot in a WMRF but you can't shoot WMRFs in a WRF gun. They're to long.
I have several Winchester WRF rifles, and it is a fun snappy cartridge to shoot.

Hello Bobbywins,
Not sure of which Model you have, but it is likely that it is a Savage made rifle with the Stevens Arms name tag on it. 22 WRF ammo is available from CCI, and I buy it here - http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/dept.asp?page=2&dept_id=203002&imgid=&categname=&dept_name=CCI\Speer&mycount=27&mscssid=E9M4KE6ESXFH9KG5U59LST5CJ76J8NPF

Thanks for the replies guys.
Still haven't figured out what model it
is.Rockford mentioned the mod.53,and in the
Gun Traders Guide,it does look similar(if you
can trust a picture),but mine has a steel butt
plate and does not have the black-tipped forearm.
It appears to have been refinished(wood)so that
may be why.Anyway,It's good to know where to get
ammo if I can't find it locally.I know we're not
dealing w/a thousand dollar gun here,so I'll find
some ammo and have some fun![:D]
Thanks again and Happy New Year!!

Found some WRF's in Lampasas on the way home Friday.
Winchesters @ $8.50 a box,but that's alright(not like I'm gonna run a thousand rounds through it or sumpin.[:D]).
I understand the warnings now about using WRF's only.
They are a little "fatter" than a long rifle.
Took it out as soon as I got home and made it go bang a couple of times.Everything seems to be good,so maybe this evening I'll see how straight it shoots(if the wind will die down a bit).
Thanks for the advice,
BW
