1858 remington conversion cylinder
I own 4 1858 remington black powder pistols in various barrel lenghts.I very much enjoy shooting these old style pistols with black powder or the new pyrodex pellets.I'm now thinking of purchasing one of the conversion cylinders in 45 colt,any suggestions on the manufacture or has anyone had bad experiences with one of these.I could buy a new gun for what most of these cost but still think it would be neat to be able to shoot a cartridge out of them but I would also truly hate to destroy one of my toys.thanks

I have a Pietta made 1858 Remington from Navy arms. Several years ago at a gun show I came accross a conversion by R&D. Dropped right in and timing was better than the percussion cylinder that came with the gun. Instructions that came with it are very specific though. Black Hills cowboy loads or black powder only. I shoot Clean shot in mine with a soft cast bullet.

Have had the R&D conversion cylinder for my 1858 Remington Pietta for several years - no problems at all with the conversion unit.
The octagonal rifling in the Pietta's bore sure leads up with the soft lead bullets, though!
