mystery rifle

I have a rifle with the following markings:
SPANDAU 1917 1920 / REM.98
Can you tell anything about it? History, were made, caliber & value?

    I was given a rifle by my dad a while ago and never did anything with it. I don't know what it is or what make it is.
    The markings are as follows:
    - on top of the reciever is a s above a crown above Spandau 1893
    - on the right side of the reciever is GEW 88
    - on the bottom at the front of the magazine is 1668(presumeably the serial #)
    - at the base of the bolt is 1425 d

    Any information that someone could give me on this is greatly appreciated as it is a mystery to me.

    The "Double Date" on the chamber denotes that the rifle was reworked after the First World War.

    They were subsequently issued to the German military and/or police units belonging to the Weimar Republic that was established by the Treaty of Versailles.

    Unless it's been rechambered? It takes the standard German military cartridge, 7.92 x 57 (8mm Mauser).

    "Spandau" is a military arsenal outside of Berlin where your rifle was manufactured in 1917.

    The "REM98" is actually Gew 98, Gewehr being the German word for rifle.

    The 100,000 man army for the Reichswehr after WWI was given weapons with the 1920 overstamp to denote that the allied commission had inventoried that particular weapon. Germany had to destroy/reparate any excess weapons above that number.

    Without a photo or description of originality of the weapon, valuation is not fesible.
